My machine won't connect, is the Internet down?
The first troubleshooting tip cures most windows/connection problems. Close all your programs and shut your machine all the way off. Click start/ shut down/ shut down, then turn it off. Wait 10 seconds before turning your machine back on. Try to connect again. If you still receive an error when dialing in or retrieving e-mail, write down the error message and call support at 1-877-455-0514

    Why can't I get my e-mail?
Our email servers have a 99.9% uptime, so please check your settings. Click here if you are unsure what your email settings should be.

    Why do I keep disconnecting?
The quality of your connection depends on the quality of your phone line and your modem.

I have stuck mail, can you fix it?
Actually, you can manage your own mailbox, directly on the mail servers. Go to webmail.localdialup.com.

How can I stop these bad things from happening to my browser and email client?
We suggest running the latest version of either IE or Netscape with the latest security patches. We also suggest that you run a virus protection program and update your virus definitions once a week, and Adware removal along with Spybot programs may also help keep your system clean.

Why does my e-mail take so long to download or stop in the middle of downloading?
You may just be downloading a large file such as pictures or a video. To verify you are still downloading your mail, right click the two little computers (lower right corner of your screen) that appear when you connect to the Internet.

Why do I disconnect when I get my mail?
There are two subtle, but evil things that could be going on here. One is "Do you have call waiting?" The call waiting tone will disturb your dial up connection and cause it to disconnect. The modem should be aware that this has taken place, though it isn't always like that. If you do have Call Waiting you need to turn that off when you dial in. There is a check box and a code (usually *70) that you need to check. This setting can be found by going to Start, then Settings and click on Control Panel. Find the Modem icon and click on it. When the Modems Properties window opens click on Dial Properties. Towards the bottom of the window is a check box "This location has call waiting, to disable it dial" and a white box with a down arrow on it. Click on the down arrow and select *70 then click on OK in Dial Properties, then click on OK in Modem Properties.
The other thing is do you get disconnect immediately after checking your mail? If so there is a setting in Outlook Express that is causing this. In Outlook Express choose Tools and then Options. Click on the Connection tab and make sure the "Hang up after sending and receiving" is *UN* checked.
These are two common causes of disconnection that you can actually do something about.
    ==> Another *EVIL* disconnection possiblilty
You can tell your machine to disconnect if it thinks the connection is idle. Some programs do not generate traffic Windows can see and thinks it is idle even when it's not. To turn this "feature" off:
Click on Start, then Settings, then Control Panel When the Control Panel window opens look for the icon labeled Internet Settings and double click on it When the Internet Options window opens click on the Connection tab. Highlight the AIX connection and click on Settings In the Settings window click on Advanced (it is towards the bottom of the window next to the Password box) Check to make sure that the check box next to "Disconnect if idle for __ minutes" is *UN*checked
If the check box is checked click on it once to uncheck it then click on OK to exit each window to have the change take effect. This may or may not cause your machine to reboot.

How can I avoid getting spam?
Access your webmail account and set the intensity of your spam filter. The spam filter automatically throws junk email into your trash folder - and the best part is, YOU decide what you want, or don't want to receive.

You should also be careful of who you give your e-mail address to. We also suggest getting a Yahoo or Hotmail account to give out for newsletters, websites, etc. We do not suggest forwarding jokes with visible e-mail addresses. Spammers love receiving these because they get multiple e-mail addresses that people actually read. We also suggest not replying to spam messages that you do not want to receive. This tells the spammers that they got a valid e-mail address and your name will most likely be added to a huge database that will later be sold in bulk e-mail cd's.

    What modem do you suggest?
US Robotics 56k connects with our equipment the best. Nation-wide customers receive optimal connections using V.92 modems.
